Star Trek Heroclix... A game I've been hesitant to get into because it would involve buying a bunch of new Heroclix, but a franchise I've loved since I was a kid! I've had several Star Trek games in the past and never really mastered any of them... the rules being so complex with a lot of paperwork for keeping track of movement, shields, etc... I've even gone the route of making my own game back in Jr. High because I thought a starship battle game would be awesome! A cardboard map and cardboard ships photo copied from some of the books I had... one of my first games I ever made!! When Wizkids came out with the Star Trek version of Heroclix I thought the ship sculpts were pretty cool with them making all the classic ships with a few newer surprised ships thrown in... I just never got around to buying any and thought the game would slowly fade away. But, I was wrong!! They had come out with two sets and there is a third installment on the way... the Borg!! How cool is that! I wouldn't know any of this or have played the game I played if it hadn't been for my brother getting interested in it and purchasing a starter set and buying a whole bunch of loose ships online. He is quite the Star Trek fan as well. We decided to sit down and play a game. My brother took the side of the Klingons and I took the side of the Federation. We played on the Kobayashi Maru game map (which my brother got laminated...really cool) and I started the game off firing the Enterprise-A with an opening salvo (I thought it would be fitting). The game played just like Heroclix, but with the different powers and traits of Star Trek it made the game really interesting... One of the Klingon ships my brother had on his team had the ability to lay four squares of cloaked mines... this was terrible for my team and ultimately ended up destroying my force! I couldn't get away from him and he just wore down my defenses! The Klingons rallied and ended up blowing the Federation out of the stars! My brother Gabe did a good job playing and using his teams abilities to win. We played for about three hours. It was a lot of fun. I've since got a starter set of my own... which my brother bought for me at a really good discount price... and ordered a Romulan ship online... I will be buying more game pieces in the near future with the intent of having more epic Star Trek battles soon. Stay tuned for the next Heroclix Star Trek battle....
My brother Gabe setting up his Klingon Team... a force to be feared...
Hmmmmm.... where to go... the Klingon ships all had stealth and were hiding behind the mine field....
Here they come!!
Flying through the mine field to get a better shot!!
In tactical position....
The Klingon's attack!!
Surrounded and ultimately doomed... this was the last position of three federation ships before they were reduced to space dust!
