I've been eye balling this graphic novel over the years and have been wanting to buy it. I finally broke down, shelled out the cash and brought it home. My interest has been rekindled lately because of the rumors online that the new Hulk movie or Avengers 3 could be based off the graphic novel. I must say that after only reading half the story at the time of this blog that I think it make a really cool movie. I wouldn't say it's the best graphic novel I've ever read, but really entertaining. I'm interested how the story will end.

Game Night April 2013
The other day my friends and I got together for another game night. We decided to play a Marvel Heroclix game... 700 point teams, free for all.. Everyone against everyone.. No team or set restrictions. We had a blast. There were only three of us and when that happens there is usually one of us who get stuck in the middle of the other two. After the opening move that ended up being me! The map we used was a map my friend James bought from a non Heroclix website.. Made by a third party. Really cool map of the inside of a factory with the warehouse. This spread us out all over the place. After exchanging blow after blow.. Round after round we ended the game with me the winner. Barely. I won at 284, James at 281, and with Mike in last place. We've got to do it soon again! I want to buy some more pieces from the newer sets. They have some cool powers.
James' Kraven figure is after my Spidy figure... except that Spiderman isn't just holding Thor's hammer... he's holding a fully loaded dumpster!! Next round I nailed Kraven from up above!
James outwitted my Beta Ray Bill figure's defense and nailed him with Rhino! knock back right off the top of the stacks of crates! Wow... great move!
James' Lizard figure was attempting to get a hold of Doctor Octopus' arms to use on Mike's cosmic Hulk, but failed the roll... I guess he's gonna have to use his claws and fangs to deal damage next round... if he lives Hulks onslaught!
This is intense! (just kidding) We were just relaxing...eating home made brownies and drinking pop... good, clean fun!
Mikes nasty team...
James' Sinister Syndicate team...
James' new Electro figure... I like his powers... I think I'll pick him up sometime myself!
A view of the whole battlefield... with Mike plotting his next move...
James gazing in wonder at my Cosmic Thor team (not!)... does he dare move closer on his opening move??? (yes, he does... and he does a good job bringing the damage)
My Cosmic Thor team...
The view of what awaits Rhino after dealing damage to my Beta Ray Bill... cosmic Thunder!!

Heroclix Game Ultron Mega Battle
Just thought I'd post some pictures from some of our older games. This one in particular is from a couple years ago. There were five of us playing and we were all on the same side (team) fighting to stop Ultron and all his Ultron minions from taking over the world. There were several objectives to this game and for the life of me I can't remember what they all were. I do know that we had to shut down the main computer in the center of the room to slow Ultron down... while his minions continued to spawn randomly all over the board. We had to defeat the different Ultrons leaders and once we destroyed one the next in line (or difficulty level) would respawn. I remember destroying the first or second Ultron. All in all it was a blast to play. It took all day on a Saturday in the fall... My friend James put the whole scenario together as well as all the random event that took place in the game. I also believe this was another game in our series of games from our campaign that we were doing at the time. We could carry over some of the characters that we earned from previous campaign games.
My team was the Fantastic Four... James was the Avengers pictured in the center of the board...
We had to race to the center of the room before Ultron could stop us... easier said than done!
James reads to us the scenario (with all the good and bad things that can happen to us) while his son, Ashton look on....
The fighting gets hot!
The Mad Titan Gabe (my brother) looks on and laughs in the face of all the Ultron minions that keep spawning.... Ha-ha-ha-ha.... did I say he was mad?
An overview of the board...
Trying to help each other... but, Ultron is tenacious....
Craziness in its full glory....
Taking a break for lunch... whew, all this fighting can work up a hunger as big as Galactus'.....
James with his daughters in support... as I look on... the thousand yard stare... Heroclix combat will do that to you....
Thor and Loki? No, it's Mike and his bearded brother Aaron to the rescue... I believe they were the Defenders and X-Men team... racing in from the other side of the board to help The Avengers, and The Fantastic Four....
Rolling the Comic Cubes... What will happen? It can drive you to madness as only the Mad Titan can testify....
Finally we're almost all in the room... the tides are turning towards our side... Ultron is finally losing... or is he?
A battle well fought... but, Ultron escaped to fight another day... I'm sure we'll meet him again....

DC Heroclix Game
Posting some more older Heroclix games again... this one happened to be a DC Heroclix game from about four to five years ago... My wife and I were still living in our apartment and our daughter was still a toddler... I remember getting together as often as we could to play, but it was always hard because we didn't have too much room to play the game.. I always had to move the living room around so we could all fit. If I remember right this game had some kind of portal theme going on... we were fighting on the docks and then somehow we would get teleported onto the outer space map to fight... It's been too long ago to remember what the objective was. All I know was it was fun to play... and I had made some paper cargo containers that we used as super heavy objects... perfect for the cargo ships....
Figuring out the layout....Mike and my brother Gabe figure out what they're gonna do next...
Gabe is about to move his guys....
The only way to get to the space map was to teleport there... it was bad if you didn't have any flying....
Battle on the ship...
I'm contemplating my move carefully.... what will happen next?
Beads... beads.... beads....
Of course, Mike had one of the big nasty guys... sorry for the blurry picture...

Imperial Star Destroyer Model
I've had this Star Wars model of an Imperial Star Destroyer for years and finally decided today to start building it. There used to be a complete model built at one of the hobby stores I used to go to when I was a kid in the display cabinet and I always used to tell myself that I'd love to build that model if I ever got one. Well, I got one and its been sitting on my shelf unbuilt for the last fifteen years, because I always had "other" projects I was working on. Whatever... It's a pretty simple model to build. I'm planning on having it hang from my ceiling in the garage when I'm done with it so I'm not planning on putting a ton of detail into it.. I might use the black chalk I have to weather the gray when it's all been painted.. Look forward to the finished product.

Free Comic Book Day
Just wanted to post the stuff I brought home for this years free comic book day at our local comic book shop. I think it's a great concept.. My daughter loves it.. She got as many comics as I did, but all geared to her age.. She's five! What a great way for kids to get into comics... We'll be going next year too!

My Centurion Armor.. A Pencil Drawing
I worked on this drawing for a couple days here and there... I've been wanting to get back into drawing again.. It's been probably 5-6 years since I've really sat down to imagine and draw out a picture. This scene is from the Sci-Fi story I've been working on since I was in high school. More on that later... I've been trying to come up with some kind of suit of armor that the main hero wears while going into battle.. I did several sketches with different ideas.. The only real thing that came out of those sketches is the helmet which is inspired by a Roman Centurions helmet (I have always loved Roman Military history) I thought it would be cool to some how incorporate that into my story somehow... Obsolete battle suits.. Kind of patch worked together.. I hope to draw more pictures inspired from my story.. Maybe write short stories and use these pictures to illustrate the stories. Stay tuned for more on this subject later!

Heroclix Batcave
My friend James is a very resourceful person.. He can always find great deals online for awesome Heroclix and other game pieces! Here is a recent purchase of his... The Batcave! Last years DC tournament prize! I have to say its pretty cool... The sculpt itself is awesome! He also has the fully loaded Batman's utility belt on display where it belongs in the Batcave! We have yet to play with either piece... But are planning on playing some larger games this summer! Looking forward to it!
The Batcave with Batman's Utility Belt.. This should add some interesting dynamics to the game!

I believe my friend James also has the Batmobile as well...

Custom Made Dice Tray
A couple months ago I was at Goodwill looking around when I happened upon a set of the old Lord of The Rings BBC radio drama tapes (not CD's... Cassette tapes!) it was kind of cool because I have fond memories of listening to that in high school during lunch time for extra credit... It was the only thing we had back then that was the closest thing to the book... (There were only a couple cartoons that were OK but no Peter Jackson movies yet) I had since always wanted to buy the set.. It was $5, so I bought it... The one thing I always liked about the set was that it came in a really cool wooden box. I always thought the engraved wooden box would be neat for something, but could never really come up with a good idea...
So, when I got home I decided to check out the cassette tapes.. I've been looking into buying a cable from radio shack that would allow me to play some of my old cassettes and then copy them to my computer to burn on a CD or put onto my iPhone.. Half the tapes where missing out of their cases! Shoot! Still won't be able to listen to the BBC production again! Well, at least I had a really nice wooden box. I began to think what I could do with it... A planter box? Something to hold my art supplies? Drawing pencils and paint brushes? But, there was no lid... Hmmmmm... Then an idea came to mind. My friend James always used a cardboard box to roll his dice in... Something he had had for years, but it recently started to fall apart... His 40th birthday was a couple months ago and I never had got him anything, so I thought I'd make him something... A custom made Dice tray made out if the wooden Lord of the Rings box! He and his family love The Lord of the Ring and all thing JRR Tolkien.. What better gift! I took the box, emptied the old cassettes into the garbage and sanded the whole thing down. This added years of life to the look of the wood. It was all kind of dirty and nasty looking... Like it had been in someone's garage for a long time. I was thinking of leaving it like this in an unfinished wood state, but then thought it would be cool to give it a couple coats of cherry wood stain.. To deepen the color and hide any blemishes...
This is the first coat of Cherry Wood stain
Next I bought some green felt with adhesive on one side from the craft store.. I almost went with a red color but decided against it at the last minute...
Felt from the craft store
This I added after giving the box another two coats and then finally a coat of clear, glossy varnish...
Cutting the felt to fit just right was the hard part.. I didn't want any gaps along the edge...
I must say that I'm happy with the end result! It looks pretty nice. Even better in person! The only draw back I can see with it is that it's a bit noisy when you roll the dice into it and we usually play most of our games in the evening after my daughter and wife have gone to bed... But, we play in the garage so it should be alright! I like this idea so much I might make a couple more for my other game playing friends! I'd like to tackle a custom wooden dice tower one of these days.. I've been looking them up online and some people have made really nice ones! Happy 40th Birthday James!

Imperial Star Destroyer Model Update
Just wanted to post a couple pictures updating my Star Destroyer model.. Yesterday I decided to use black chalk to highlight some of the panel work.. In the past I would've used a black wash, but I like the look of the chalk better. It's easier to control the effect I think. I'll have to see the over all effect when I'm finished. I'm not sure yet what I want to do with the huge rockets on the back.. I might have to look online to see photos of the original models to see what they did. Stay tuned for further updates...

Free Heroclix!
My brother stopped by at one of our local comic book shops here in Portland, Oregon and look what they gave him for free!! They had just finished playing a Heroclix tournament and the Judge had a bag full of free clix to hand out... my brother went up to him and was asking about the tournament and when they meet, etc... the guy just gave him a handful of mini's... (wish I was there... I've been wanting to get the book of the skull for a while now....and they are about $11 online...). All I can say is that Judge was pretty cool.... way to go! What a great way to promote the game.... This was at Things From Another World off Broadway in Portland....
I might have to go and play in a tournament there sometime soon in the future!!

Star Trek Heroclix Game
Star Trek Heroclix... A game I've been hesitant to get into because it would involve buying a bunch of new Heroclix, but a franchise I've loved since I was a kid! I've had several Star Trek games in the past and never really mastered any of them... the rules being so complex with a lot of paperwork for keeping track of movement, shields, etc... I've even gone the route of making my own game back in Jr. High because I thought a starship battle game would be awesome! A cardboard map and cardboard ships photo copied from some of the books I had... one of my first games I ever made!! When Wizkids came out with the Star Trek version of Heroclix I thought the ship sculpts were pretty cool with them making all the classic ships with a few newer surprised ships thrown in... I just never got around to buying any and thought the game would slowly fade away. But, I was wrong!! They had come out with two sets and there is a third installment on the way... the Borg!! How cool is that! I wouldn't know any of this or have played the game I played if it hadn't been for my brother getting interested in it and purchasing a starter set and buying a whole bunch of loose ships online. He is quite the Star Trek fan as well. We decided to sit down and play a game. My brother took the side of the Klingons and I took the side of the Federation. We played on the Kobayashi Maru game map (which my brother got laminated...really cool) and I started the game off firing the Enterprise-A with an opening salvo (I thought it would be fitting). The game played just like Heroclix, but with the different powers and traits of Star Trek it made the game really interesting... One of the Klingon ships my brother had on his team had the ability to lay four squares of cloaked mines... this was terrible for my team and ultimately ended up destroying my force! I couldn't get away from him and he just wore down my defenses! The Klingons rallied and ended up blowing the Federation out of the stars! My brother Gabe did a good job playing and using his teams abilities to win. We played for about three hours. It was a lot of fun. I've since got a starter set of my own... which my brother bought for me at a really good discount price... and ordered a Romulan ship online... I will be buying more game pieces in the near future with the intent of having more epic Star Trek battles soon. Stay tuned for the next Heroclix Star Trek battle....
My brother Gabe setting up his Klingon Team... a force to be feared...
Hmmmmm.... where to go... the Klingon ships all had stealth and were hiding behind the mine field....
Here they come!!
Flying through the mine field to get a better shot!!
In tactical position....
The Klingon's attack!!
Surrounded and ultimately doomed... this was the last position of three federation ships before they were reduced to space dust!

Ziran The Tester Heroclix
I recently received Ziran The Tester in the mail... along with about twenty random Marvel Heroclix from some of the newer sets... I finally got a Drax the Destroyer Heroclix which I've been wanting for some time. I'd like to put together a whole Guardians of the Galaxy team, but have a way to go. I bet Wizkids will have some newer and better Heroclix when the Guardians movie comes out next year. Ziran the Tester is just an awesome looking Heroclix... so imposing...

My Most Recent Comics
I've always loved to read comics. I can barely remember a time in my life when I didn't read them. I've gone through waves where I'll be obsessed with them and then there are times that I'm not really interested in any. I've gone from DC comics to Marvel comic and back again... I've gone from superheroes to sci-fi, to pulp characters... I've read my fair share of stories and know what I like. Right now I'm back into collecting after not really collecting anything for about eight years and I would say that the new recent Marvel movies has got a lot to do with it. I'm totally craving Marvel cosmic stories...(if you've been reading Marvel comics for years you know what I'm talking about) the recent Marvel big "event" just so happens to be a huge Marvel cosmic story that should stretch for the next year and beyond! It's called "Infinity" and it promises to be HUGE! I was excited to hear about this and went online to subscribe to three of the main titles that are going to support the Infinity storyline. So far I'm really liking it... It looks like Thanos is after the Infinity Jewels once again, but this time they are all hidden on earth... Which is not good... I look forward every month when the new issue comes out... Stay tuned...

Also picked up this cool Captain America graphic novel for $5 at Barnes and Nobles... It was in the discount book area!

Giant Man & Pacific Rim Heroclix
Recently sent away and got the new Giant Man Heroclix figure! I'm very excited to try it out in one of our upcoming games... I think the sculpt is really cool. It came with an Ant Man version representing when Giant Man shrinks down to teeny tiny size!
Also, just recently got a free Pacific Rim Heroclix from one of my friends... haven't tried this out yet, but am interested to see how it does!
Cool sculpt!! Really detailed!

Epic Heroclix Game
I thought I'd post some pictures from one of our recent games... this was about a month ago. I think our point value for this game was 1000 pts per team... we were all against each other with Shuma Gorath roaming free in the game with a bunch of special "house" rules in effect... adding more monsters and mayhem to the game. I don't think anyone knew I was going to use Ziran the Tester in the game, but we all had awesome teams... a lot of cosmic team figures....
My friend James ready to take on Ziran The Tester....
My brother Gabriel's formidable force... all wielding magical Hammers....
My Ziran the Tester attacks the formidable Shuma Gorath....
James' team is assaulted by a horrendous beast from one of Shuma Gorath's portals of doom....
My friend Mike's team gets into position...
Notice my brothers small Heroclix sneaking up on my Ziran The Tester... he actually did a bunch of damage....his character was wielding one of the Fear Itself Hammers....
A view of the battlefield....
My brothers team lined up and ready to attack...
My brother makes a bold move and tries to damage Shuma Gorath...
We all converge on Shuma Gorath... my character Mar-Vell is attacking....
All of Gabriel's figures surround and attack me.... but, I live to fight another day....notice in the background that the Avengers finally show up... James finally got his characters to teleport onto our board...
Avengers Prime Heroclix figure... a very cool sculpt....

Star Wars Black: Luke Skywalker
When I read about the new line of Star Wars figures coming out this year called "The Black Series" I was only really interested in getting the first in the new series to collect and display. I was in our local Fred Meyer's store the other day and saw all the new black series figures. I'm really impressed with the amount of detail that is going into these. I picked up Luke Skywalker #01... I had to... I've been a lifetime Star Wars fan and remember playing with the old original 1970's version Star Wars toys when I was a kid. I like how this new line of toys is a little bigger than the old school figures. So far I've seen the Darth Maul, R2-D2, and Imperial Sand Trooper figures... a really cool series. I might pick up the Sand Trooper one of these days... the stormtrooper outfit has wear and tear from being in a harsh dessert environment... it looks so cool.... I don't know if these will be worth something someday, but even if they are not I like them for what they are....
