Fear Itself Scenario

My friend James and I decided the next time we got together we'd try out one of the Fear Itself Heroclix scenarios. The scenario that we tried was one in which Skadi and her warbots attack the hero's in the city. I was the force of Skadi and a small Hydra team and my friend James was the ever present force of The Avengers. this ended up being a very interesting game. The layout of the map and how we (unknowingly) placed the cars caused a barrier across the board that made movement very difficult. It's also the first time we had used the minions tokens. We weren't that familiar with the rules for minions tokens, but we played the best we could. The stacking and combining of the minions powers plus the bonus' that Skadi gave ended up winning the day for Hydra and the forces of evil. We plan on playing some more of the Fear Itself scenarios in the future.... it was fun!

This was a very interesting scenario.... it came down to the wire!!

Playing Zombies!!!

We just came back from a week at the coast where we rented a cabin and had a lot of relaxing down time. One afternoon we decided to play Zombies!!! My wife and daughter had never played, so I took out the really graphic and gross cards (so my daughter wouldn't see them... they're kind of scary for a five year old) The rules aren't really all that hard to learn and before long we were up and running... yeah, running... the zombies were coming out from everywhere! We were looking for the helicopter pad to make our escape. I actually didn't make it on the first try and had to start from the starting game tile... which wasn't good because the back area of the game had filled with zombies... My wife actually found the helicopter pad and fought her way to it to make her escape... she won! I wasn't sure how my wife would like playing this game, but she said she had fun. She's not really a gamer so I was really happy that she gave it a try! Maybe she'll want to play again in the near future!

My daughter planning her next move...

My wife rolling... she's about to get onto the helicopter!

My wife was the red figure and my daughter was the green... they both made it out of there alive!!

Our rental cabin at the coast... at Cape Lookout state park... a great place to rest and take it easy....

Just an update on my drawing projects... I've been doing more in developing my Sci Fi story.. Character development and environment development for my story is an on going process. Some of these characters are characters that I developed in the early 1990's so I've felt I need to update them and mature the look and feel of the universe.

Three Games At Once!

Last week we decided to get together for a couple smaller point Heroclix games! Thursday night saw us playing three 500 point Marvel games. There were three of us, so we'll often play three games at once so we can make the most out of our playing time. There are no sitting and waiting for the other players to move.. There is normally plenty to do.
My friend James has all of the Manderins rings of power! He was playing the Mandarin in one of our games... The one I was playing against him with my X-Men team... And he could keep changing out his rings! It's a cool relic!

Three games at once!

Mike getting ready to make his move! I was playing against Mike... We were not really matched too well.. He had a lot of heavy hitters on his team... Mine was mostly blades/claws/fangs type characters... I think if we would have played the whole game out to the end Mike would've won, but it wouldn't have been easy!

The X-men against the minions of Manderin!

Getting up close and personal with Mikes characters... We started to battle it out in this small room!

I think the X-Men would've eventually won...

The game between Mike and James!

Fear Itself Video

A video of our recent "Fear Itself" game... mostly a video of the terrain... my friend James did an excellent job with all the 3D buildings he's been collecting for our game. This was our first attempt at playing a game with this type of board. We have plans to expand the city and make it much larger. This will make for some truly "EPIC' games! We had to modify some of the rules and we added a few to make it interesting. Like I said... this was the first try at this, so we found some things that we'll change in future games. (Example: our friend Aaron decided to take a semi-truck and carry it up through one of the buildings to the roof and use it to smash someone... we'll probably make it so you can't do that in the future... as cool as it sounds. Aaron actually missed his roll, so it ended up not happening as he would have had it. One of the other things that could have happened is for the semi-truck to explode doing splash penetrating damage to everyone around it since it was a fuel truck.)

3D terrain using "O" scale model railroad buildings... more games to be featured here in the future.

I'll also be posting a bunch of photo's from this game soon....

Saturday "Fear Itself" Game 2014

In the previous post I showed a video of the game map... the following is a bunch of pictures of our Fear Itself 3D game. My friend James outdid himself with putting together this game board. It was very nice and really well done! Good job James! The board looked beautiful and with our special house rules to augment the normal Heroclix rules our game play went very smoothly. There were five of us playing each controlling a different faction. Myself, Mike, and Aaron were the forces of good... I was The Avengers team, Mike was The Defenders team, and Aaron was The X-Men team. James and his son Ashton were the forces of evil. both being the Masters of Evil (of course). Once the good team had rolled and placed our figures in our starting areas we had to move and then James and Ashton brought in their team. The surprise though was that after they were revealed they were all transformed into The Worthy with their magical hammers from Asgard... a worthy opponent for us all!! The battle began and lasted for the next six hours! after the first round was over it was revealed that Ashton's team betrayed and turned against his Dad... he wasn't on the good team, but he wasn't on the bad team either. The problem with the forces of evil was that they had spread their team all over the board to combat all of our teams and had therefore spread their team too thin. We began to pick them off one by one. My combo of Iron Man Mk 7, 300 point Giant Man, and Ares was too much for them. My Iron Man had the ability to outwit a power and then use perplex on the same character, so I would outwit their defenses and then perplex down their defensive stat a point... and attack. I had Giant man pick up a couple ultra heavy vehicles and smash them into my opponents which was at least 7 points of damage... then Ares would attack with running shot and do another 5 clicks of damage... Iron Man would do another 4 clicks ( I think) and Wasp another 3 clicks with running shot! The Worthy fell like flies!! I ended up destroying four Worthy characters with their Hammers left laying on the street! Giant Man had the ability to walk right up to the roofs of the buildings... I brought a car up to a couple for some villain smashing!! It was a great time! Mike's problem was fighting the new and improved "Wrecking Crew"... they were a challenge and pinned him on the back of the bank in the street. Mike ended up destroying them, but without a couple casualties of his own. He lost his Hulk. Aaron used the portals that the Enchantress had set up at the beginning of the game to move around plus he had the Nightcrawler with the "bamf" ability... so immediately he positioned himself on the tallest building right were the enemy portaled themselves in. He had a battle on his hands for the rest of the game. Kurth beamed in right in front of his forces on the street and Aaron's X-Men had a battle on their hands for the next few rounds! Aaron finally defeated Kurth and did some damage on the building top... the game was basically over. The Worthy were defeated... they put up a great fight, but the forces of good triumphed over the forces of evil... New York was saved yet again! I want to thank all my friends for a great game day. We had a blast... I can't wait till our next 3D game day... the maps made it all awesome! They added a twist to the game... it became a little more strategic how you place your characters... till then... enjoy the pictures!! Thanks for visiting my page... more ammo for your own games!!

The side of the map that Mike and Aaron started out at... notice there are no villains place yet... where are they?

The other side... this is were my team started out from... behind the humvee barrier ...

The Avengers... looking for The Masters of Evil... the army had been called in, but they were no where to be seen!!

The X-Men (Aaron's team)... looking for some office supplies?? I think not...they had to start next to the explodable fuel truck...

Taking up our defensive positions on the first round... no enemies anywhere...

What is that yellow counter in the middle of the street..?

There is a red counter here too??? What's going on? Take the high ground until the enemy appears!!

Mike and Aaron contemplating where the enemy are...??

Look out!! They just appeared out of no where thanks to the Enchantress... Baron Zemo has her on his team...magical portals appearing everywhere!!

The roof top became a battle ground... as the X-Men meet Baron Zemo in combat.. little do they know that there is a fuel truck being carried by one of the X-Men team mates up through the building!! The Avengers have problems on their roof top as well!!

The Wrecking Crew have The Hulk trapped ... an epic battle begins with brute strength matched against brute strength!! Windows were breaking!!

Silver Surfer and Drax take up positions to attack the Wrecking Crew from behind!!

After Giant Man hits Baron Zemo off the other building with a mail truck (KOing him) He then walks right up the other building with a fire marshals car and takes out an Asgardian...now that's what I'm talking about!

James, Aaron, and Mike discussing the roof top battle...

It got so intense I had to pull out a Tommy Gun to keep the peace!!

Giant Man about to climb a building!!

The Avengers back in the street... after taking out two of The Worthy!!

Cyclops climbing a building... the X-Men were considering attacking The Avengers towards the end of the game... they thought that the Avengers had too many kills... isn't that just like the Mutants... this might lead to an Avengers vs X-Men campaign in the near future!!

Guess who should appear after all The Worthy were defeated???

The last round... Aaron was trying to finish off the Enchantress....

The next round would have brought The Serpent of Asgard... would we have survived?? We'll have to find out in a future game!!

A "What-If" scene... this never happened in our game, but could have if we would've had more time to play...

My First Chase Heroclix Figure

Finally got my first chase figure... The Iron Engine. My friend James bought one online and then when he got a case of the new Iron Man set he pulled another one, so he offered it to me at a discounted price! I haven't really pursued any in the past since they are usually priced so high!! It's a really cool sculpt and I like the idea of owning multiple Iron Man pieces since Tony Stark has many suits to use! I haven't tried it in a game yet, but am looking forward to!

My Stan Lee Autographed Comic!

Last week was the Portland Wizard World Comic Con... and I got to go all three days! My wife got me a three day pass as a Christmas gift! She's an awesome wife! I will post more later on the Con, but I wanted to post one of my prize possession's... A signed by none other than Stan Lee and Micheal Zeck comic book... Secret Wars #8 (the intro of Spiderman's new suit and later Venom character). This is an originally owned comic (by me) that I decided to bring to the Con to have Stan Lee sign. I found out that the cover artist Micheal Zeck would be there too, so I waited in line and got them both to sign. This comic also has a double meaning for me... it was purchased for me by my now deceased childhood best friend and it was something that we both wanted to do as kids... meet Stan Lee... another reason why I chose this comic to be signed. This one will go in a frame on the wall, and someday will be my daughters to do as she wants (maybe by then she can sell it for a ton of money?) But, for now... it'll be one of my favorite comic possessions!

Building a Walthers Conveyer Leg HO scale for my Uncle. He suffered a stroke a few years ago and his fingers aren't as good as they used to be, so he asked me to help him build this model. He's currently building an HO town with a model railroad running through it. I'll post pictures in a later post. It's a work in progress! This is my model so far! Enjoy!

The Ares Battlemech

It's been a while since I've written on my blog, so I have a ton of posts to post to catch everyone up on some of the things I've been building and collecting. The first (and favorite) is one of my new purchases... The 135 ton limited edition Ares Battlemech from Iron Wind  Metals. I know that they made this mech for the Mechwarrior clix game years ago, but there was no version made of metal available to Classic Battletech players. I went online and searched for the Mechwarrior version to buy to convert (I knew it wouldn't be to scale, but was ok with that...) when I started hearing rumors that Iron Winds was going to make it's own version available at a convention somewhere... I thought maybe I could wait... someone might try selling one of the convention mech's on ebay or something. I waited for over a year with no results. I hadn't been on Iron Winds website for a while and decided to check it out... sure enough they were offering this mech along with four different variants, but with a steep price. My friend Tymun and I had recently been playing some games again and were loving every minute of it... we had seen and had been talking about the tripod mechs and how interesting it would be to play them.. I text him and let him know that they were selling the Ares finally... We both instantly knew we had to have this mech! It was just too awesome! Despite the price I thought it was totally worth it to be able to field this mech in some of our battles... perhaps as a strategic center point in one of our future campaigns. I placed the order and decided on the Hades Variant... based mostly on the looks of the mech. I received my package a couple weeks later and this is what I got:

The Limited Edition Ares / Hades Variant comes in a fairly large package... there is a lot to put together!

Some assembly required! Can't wait till it's done!

As you can see this mech will take a little time to assemble... but I think the end result will be awesome. Now I just need to find a stat sheet for it and some rules on game play with a tripod 135 ton mech... and I've got to think of a really cool paint scheme... something to strike fear in my enemies when they see this thing slowly marching it's way towards them on the battle field...

Battle in the Snow

My brother and I had an opportunity recently to play a small Battletech Game on a Sunday afternoon for a couple hours. I put together a 3D map using the back of two regular Battletech mapsheets and some trees and buildings. I figured since the weather was getting colder outside I would try and reflect that in our gaming with making a snow covered map. We had a great time and played for about four to five hours. I would say that I won the game, but not by much. There was some really fun situations that came up where we attacked each other using the physical attack rules.
