My New X-Wing Miniatures

Just recently purchased the new X-Wing Miniature game and had some gift cards left over from Christmas, so I decided to buy some more X-Wing expansions online... Here are a few that I got in the mail the other day... Opening these was just as much fun as opening presents on Christmas morning! I'm looking forward to playing a game with my friend James this upcoming Thursday evening...

Battlemech of the Week.

Been working on my Battletech miniatures again... specifically my Uziel mech. I was a little uninspired when I first started to paint it trying to think of a cool paint scheme, but then I started to look at my Kodiak that I recently painted and liked the colors, so I decided to go with the same paint scheme. I figure that I'll paint a Clan Star with the same blue/gray/red colors... I'm going to get some Clan Ghost Bear waterslide decals and apply them to these when they are all done!

 The Uziel Battlemech... almost finished!

My Uziel Mech next to my Kodiak Mech... Can't wait to try them out in a game!

Ordered a few more ships not too long ago and finally got them in the mail! Can't wait to try these out... I love the dynamic of game play for the X-Wing Miniatures game. It's so unique and different for someone used to playing with some kind of grid on the board.

Latest Heroclix Game: The Inhumans VS The Kree

A couple weeks ago my friend James and I had a great Heroclix game. We've been playing a lot of Star Wars X-Wing miniatures over the last several months and decided to to use some of the recently bought and (to us) untried Heroclix figures. I went with an Inhumans team build and James went with a Kree build. Needless to say we were pretty evenly matched in our builds. The character that stood out on my team and basically made everything "work" was Maximilian... Black bolts mad brother. With his TK ability I was able to move characters all over the board... The game came down to James having only one guy left and for my team three guys left, but we were kind of in a stalemate of move and shoot and then chase. His last character had clixed to hypersonic which would have made the game go on for some time, so since it was past midnight we decided to call the game... After adding up all the point I would have thought that I was the winner, but James pulled off a win by only 30 points because he had KO'd one of my 30 point minions that Maximilian can spawn! The game was a blast... I don't care if I lost because we had such a great time playing. There was a lot of strategy in this game which made it really interesting! Till next time!

Battletech Convention Exclusive: The 150 Ton Omega

My good friend Tymun recently ordered the 150 ton convention exclusive Battlemech the Omega from Ironwinds Metals... What an awesome mech! He just finished putting the 150 ton beast together last night and sent me a text with the picture of it completed! This mech sports three Guass Rifles as part of its deadly armament... Walking at two hexes and running at three is not too bad in my humble opinion. I will more than likely be going up against this mech sometime in the near future in a game, so I had better start strategizing on how I will defeat it! Maybe swarm it with Elementals? Or pound it down with artillery? He will have the range with his Guass rifles.. We'll see! I'm eager to see how Tymun will paint this one!

My Marauder Reborn

My Marauder battletech miniature... One of my favorite miniatures from the mid 80's. This is the second Battletech miniature I bought way back in 1986-87 when I first started learning how to play Battletech! It's been painted at least three times since then and (as can be seen) parts of all the previous paint jobs show through. About 15 years ago I accidentally dropped this miniature breaking it into pieces and it has since sat in my miniature box unused and collecting dust. I decided recently to glue it (as well as several other older mechs) back together. To resurrect my old inner sphere forces of long ago and reintroduce them back into my modern Battletech games! I'll use all the upgrade record sheets ( so they have a fighting chance!) but, I'm happy with the result. It's good to see an old miniature put back together! I'm planning on "cleaning" up the miniature a bit... Redo the base and maybe fix a little of the paint here and there, but mostly I'll leave it as it is... A testament to how I used to paint.

Ordered an Atlas III on eBay and it came the other day in the mail. I had to put this monstrosity together quickly because I just love how formidable it looks! I can't wait to paint it! I think I'll go with a dark gray paint job with gun metal highlights... I'm really liking the Battletech Dark Age mechs... Some of the best new designs in my opinion in years!

My Atlas III assembled and ready for primer and paint!

Finally decided to put together my limited edition Ares "Hades" varient 130 ton Battlemech!! I have to say that I absolutely love this mech and can't wait to try it out in my future games! It just looks like a beast! The amount of metal on this thing just makes it massive compared to the rest of the battlemechs I own!

I recently began to paint my new Hitotsume Kozo Battlemech and in my opinion it's looking pretty awesome! I'm trying to come up with my own House Kurita color scheme and decided to go with a light and dark gray contrast... with tan earth tones for highlights... I have several House Kurita mechs that I'm going to paint in this scheme.

My friends Battletech Mech and Vehicle Collection

I love how my friend Tymun and I have been playing Battletech with each other for over twenty years! We've had times where we've played a lot (back in high school) and times where we hardly played at all. But, what I like the most is that we've been able after many years to pick up right where we left off! We've both been getting back into playing and have rediscovered how much we love to play the game! It's good, clean fun... It stimulates the mind and allows us to be creative in designing our game parameters and also gets us back into a hobby mode of putting the miniatures together and spending time to paint them. I just wanted to share a picture of Tymuns collection. He had lost many of his mechs and had just recently found a bunch... His cat knocked over his box thus breaking most of his mechs... When I took this picture at our last game Tymun and his wife had spent some hours the day before glueing them all back together again! They are looking good! I know some of these mechs he's had for over twenty years... It'll be good to see them in action again as I hope we have many many more years of game left in us!

Two House Kurita Battlemechs Completed

I have been working on a couple older mechs that I've had for many years... The No Dachi was one I had painted before but had never really liked the paint job and wasn't sure what to do with it. It was originally painted in a dark tan and gold color, but I decided to paint it in a bright red color to match my House Kurita theme. I'm pleased with how it turned out. The Hatamoto Chi mech was a gift given to me years ago by a good friend that I never got around to paint... Sadly I never played with it either... That is about to change! I am really pleased with how this one turned out as well... I'll be using it to bolster up my Kurita lances for future campaigns! I have several more Kurita mechs to paint and I'm excited to finally have my own unique paint scheme that I hope will instill fear into my opponents whenever I go against them!

Yellow Jacket Helicopters

Almost done with my two Yellow Jacket Helicopters... I've had these miniatures for years and have wanted to use them paired up with some Clan piranha mechs...I think they could be a deadly combo when used together. So I decided to blow the dust off my unpainted mini's and get to work. I'm going to finish these two off with some House Kurita decals...

Bolt Action

It has been a while since I've published anything on my blog. Hopefully I can be a little more consistent in my posts in the future. A few years ago I hurt my back while working in our yard and was unable to work or do anything for a couple months. I considered working on my unfinished models and painting my miniatures during this time to complete projects that I had been working on for many years. But, I felt I wanted to try something new, and wanted to venture into 28mm wargaming, but wasn't quite sure which era I wanted to pursue. I have always loved WWII models (tanks in particular) and had fond memories of playing with my Dad's toy soldiers when I was very young (before I started playing with action figures... Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, etc... from the 80's) and my Dad has always loved WWII military history. I got into building WWII tanks and armor when I was in high school and in my early 20's, but hadn't really done anything for years. In searching through the internet while injured I came across the Warlord Games website and fell instantly in love with their line of  WWII miniatures and tank models. I decided to make the plunge and purchased a Bolt Action starter set. Once I received that in the mail and assembled my German half track and some of the infantry I instantly became addicted! I couldn't get enough of the miniatures and could see visions of vast German, Russian, and American armies moving across my game table! I almost didn't care if I learned the rules for the game, but was really enjoying building and painting the figures and game pieces! I did eventually read the rules, but I was more interested in the process of building the tanks, etc. After months of painting I entered some of the pieces in our once a year local Model Club swap meet and won second place for my models in my category! Now after a couple years I have a small army of Germans and USA Airborne troops. Please enjoy the few pictures below... more to come!
